Jumping Into Danger #3: Crash Course by Elizabeth A. Reeves
Treasure pulled at the bit and rose into the air over the fence. Jessica caught her breath until they had cleared the rail. Treasure’s front feet stretched down and met the ground. There was sudden lurch, almost throwing Jessica out of the saddle. She grabbed hold of her mane as Treasure’s hooves slipped in the mud and the mare scrambled for purchase on the slippery ground. She could hear gasps from the stands as Treasure’s feet went out from under her, sending the pair over head over heels.
Jessica clenched her eyes shut as they tumbled end over end. The last thing she saw was Treasure’s back as it came down on top of her.
