O Lord, Forgive Them: 30 Days of Praying for Your Enemies by Zari Banks

Synopsis:

Praying for our enemies isn’t easy. It may even be one of the most difficult commands for some believers to obey. But, thanks to Jesus, and his sacrifice on the cross, we can do anything we set our minds to in His strength and with His power operating in our lives. For me, the decision to obey Christ’s command to pray for my enemies was the first step to receiving an outpouring of supernatural power in my life – the power to move mountains and birth miracles. As you read this book and spend time in prayer with your Heavenly Father, lifting up your enemies to Him, your entire life will begin to change. Initially, I was only praying for my enemies because I wanted to be obedient. Then God began to work in my life and show me unseen things, and my obedience turned into genuine compassion for all of God’s children. A similar experience is available to you, and all it takes is a willing heart that’s committed to honor God above all things. There’s indescribable freedom in obedience to Christ, a deep intimacy with the Holy Spirit, and priceless rewards.

Excerpt:

Day 1

So now Israel, what do you think GOD expects from you?  Just this: Live in His presence in holy reverence, follow the road he sets out for you, love him, serve GOD, your GOD, with everything you have in you, obey his commandments and regulations of GOD that I’m commanding you today–live a good life.
Deuteronomy 10:12-13

Lord, I thank you for this opportunity to be obedient to your commands.  I praise you because you’re true to your word.  I’m sorry for the times I’ve doubted you and had to miss out on the blessings you’d planned for me, and worse, required discipline.  I know you want what’s best for me, and because I’m choosing to obey I’m clearing the way for the miraculous to happen in my life.

I thank you because you’re gracious and merciful.  Please continue to show grace and mercy to _____________ for as long as it takes them to learn to honor you.  Lord, please forgive them.  Don’t hold the wrongs they’ve committed against me and my family against them.  Draw them to yourself, Father, and bless them to know you intimately.  I love you, Lord.  In Jesus’ Name. Amen

Don’t ever say, “I’ll get you for that!” Wait for GOD; He’ll settle the score.
Proverbs 20:22

Day 2

JESUS prayed, “FATHER, forgive them; they don’t know what they’re doing.”
Luke 23:34a

Jesus, the depth of your love amazes me.  I know you forgave-and continue to forgive-readily, but I confess to you my heart is hesitant because I’ve been hurt.  Please heal my heart, and bless me to always remember that I can do anything because you live on the inside of me.  I’m committed to obey you because you always prove faithful.  I thank you for already having a plan to deliver justice if I believe your word and act upon it.

Please pour your Holy Spirit out over  _____________.  Breathe on them and give them the peace that passes their understanding.  Bless them with healthy, wealth, and loving relationships all the days of their lives.  Lead them to a deep relationship with you, and give them a hunger to read and meditate on your word.  I give you all praise, honor, and glory, my God and King.  Amen

Don’t for a minute envy careless rebels;  soak yourself in the Fear-of-GOD— That’s where your future lies. Then you won’t be left with an armload of nothing.
Proverbs 23:17-18

Day 3

If you see your enemy hungry, go buy him lunch; if he’s thirsty, bring him a drink. Your generosity will surprise him with goodness, and GOD will look after you.
Luke 23:34

Lord, I’m so glad that I can do anything through Christ.  I need you to change my hurt feelings into compassion toward my enemies.  I’ve been justified, so when I confess I’m forgiven.  Those who sought to hurt me may not be aware of your sacrifice on the cross for them or your love for people.  They may not have godly wisdom and understanding.  Please help me to see them through your eyes, and love them as you do.

Heavenly Father, please forgive _____________ for any action toward me or my family that doesn’t honor you and bless us.  Don’t count their sin against them because they may still be in darkness.  Holy Spirit, fill their lives with the truth so that they’ll be set free and enjoy the blessings promised in the Bible that are available here on earth now and eternal life in heaven later.  I know you continue to shower them with mercy because you love them so dearly.  I praise your for teaching me to love them as I do your will.  Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer in Jesus’ Name.  Amen

You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. You revive my drooping head;  my cup brims with blessing.
Psalm 23:5

Day 4

If you find your enemy’s ox or donkey loose, take it back to him.
Exodus 23:4

I praise you, Almighty God, because your every word proves true.  Thank you for promising to bless me if I do good to anyone.  Praying for my enemies seems counterproductive in the world’s eyes, but I praise you because your laws are eternal, steadfast, and pure.  You are sovereign, O God, and your will always comes to pass.  I praise you because you’re trustworthy and only want what’s best for me.  I have no fear or hesitation in obeying your commands because your word, your promises, and your blessings stand the test of time.

Jesus, I know that you love me, and that you were hurt, too, when _____________ wronged me.  I’m sorry you had to endure that pain, but I thank you for being by my side the entire time.  Please watch over _____________ daily.  Protect them and keep them safe from hurt and harm caused by others.  Send angels to keep charge over them.  Bless them to find favor with everyone they meet.  Supply all of their needs, Lord–mental, physical, spiritual–and bless them to lie down in peace to sleep.  I give you praise because you’re able and willing to do all this and more for them because of your unfailing love.  Thank you, Jesus.  I love you.  Amen

The payoff for meekness and Fear-of-GOD     is plenty and honor and a satisfying life.
Proverbs 22:4

Day 5

GOD in solemn honor does things right, but His nerves are sandpapered raw.  Nobody gets by with anything.
Psalm 7:11

Sometimes I wish I could snap my fingers and make all wrongs right.  Those I’ve done to others and those done to me.  But, you don’t work by magic or any other man-made process.  Your word is constant–as you are–and I have faith that you’re working toward a good end for me.  I will not disobey your command to forgive, pray for, and bless my enemies.  I love you and respect you far too much for that, Lord.  Thank you for your faithfulness throughout my life.  I love you.

Heavenly Father, please shower down a double portion of mercy on _____________ today.  Bless them to experience your love so powerfully in their lives that your presence will be felt by all who come into contact with them.  Touch their mouths, Lord, and teach them to speak life and to honor you with their words.  Allow them to be a blessing to someone today.  I love you because you’re so sweet and kind and you love them because you created them.  Thank you for Christ’s sacrifice for them and me and my family.  Amen

For people who hate discipline and only get more stubborn, There’ll come a day when life tumbles in and they break,  but by then it’ll be too late to help them.
