Rakeiya Bowden

Rakeiya’s Bio:

Author of ‘Daydreams’, Rakeiya “Daydreamer” Bowden is a poet from Prince George’s County, Maryland. Daydreamer was a nickname given to her, because she was always dreaming about the future. This nickname stuck with her for years to come because she always believed that despite opposition, no one should ever stop dreaming; for dreams are the beginnings of movements. Rakeiya began writing at a very young age, 7 years old to be exact. Though she didn’t know it was poetry she was writing at the time, she knew she loved this new-found way of expression. Rakeiya continued writing poetry throughout middle school and high school but it wasn’t until high school that she realized that writing wasn’t just a phase, it was apart of her life. Many people didn’t even know that she wrote poetry because she felt her writing was private and wasn’t quite ready to share her work with others. But that all changed when she began writing poetry for her high school magazine called the Odyssey (created by Jessica Watson). Sharing her work was such a freeing experience and hearing how others could relate to her poetry was the greatest gift. It was then that she realized she wanted to continue writing and one day publish her own book of poetry. Her dream was realized September 2010, when she published her first book of poetry entitled ‘Daydreams’. Rakeiya’s poetry is inspired by everything she has experienced in her life as well as the lives of those around her. Art has also been a great source of inspiration for her, from music to theater and photography. She is excited about the many other projects to come, and looks forward to publishing many more books of poetry.
