Simple Pleasures by Natasha Simmons

Synopsis:

The novel chronicles two months of a compelling love affair between the chaste Alexandra Wyatt, a brand-new law graduate, and the passionate Joshua Phoenix, a handsome professor. To look at her, no one would believe that the gorgeous Alex has had only one date in her life, and that, a disaster. Having devoted herself to her late father, a prominent lawyer, and his aspirations for her law career, Alex has so far led a cloistered life and erected monumental defenses. That is, until she spontaneously hugs Professor Phoenix as he hands her the diploma and sets her nerve ends to tingling. Now, Alex has to decide: defense, or surrender? living up to others’ expectations, or simply living? Add in a ten-million dollar inheritance, a conniving ex-girlfriend in league with Joshua’s scheming mother, his playboy brother, and Alex’s estranged best friend who is trying to escape an abusive husband, and the plot is rife with intrigue.

Excerpt:

“What’s your pleasure?” she said, bringing her mind back on track and using a phrase she often used at the bar, only this time referring to the coffee she’d offered.

“A quiet little place that’s not very known where you can get the best homemade pasta in the city; a glass of my favorite red wine; taking the time to start and finish a really great book; calm seas with no shore in sight; glancing at the clock and finding out I still have three more hours to sleep. My pleasure is to always have that smile of yours staring back at me.”

She said nothing for almost a whole minute. His deep, brown eyes bore into her and whispered something sweet to her soul.

“Okay,” was all she said.
