The Index is doing book reviews...

The Independent Author Index has seen tremendous growth since it’s 18 March 2012 launch and is always looking for more ways to showcase more authors and more books to visitors.

That’s why the Index is doing book reviews!

You don’t have to be a member of the Index to have your book reviewed, but one of the benefits of having your book reviewed here is that your review will appear on the Index!

Here’s more information:

Basic Review Extended Review
The basic review is a new reviewing system that is based on 5 categories of 5 points each, which are averaged to determine your 5-star rating. See an example. The extended review is the traditional book review where the reviewer will expound on the 5 categories from the basic reviewing system. See an example.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Am I paying for a good review of my book?
A: No, your book will be given an honest rating based on its merit(s).

Q: Will I be able to see my review before it is posted?
A: No.

Q: Is it possible that the Index will choose not to review my book?
A: Yes, it’s possible that your book will not be reviewed for one or more reasons. If this happens, then your full payment will be refunded. The Index reserves the privilege to offer or not offer an explanation as to why your book was not reviewed.

Q: What if I pay and then I get nervous about the type of review I’m going to receive and decide I don’t want to have my book reviewed? Can I get my money back?
A: Within three (3) business days of paying for a review, you may request a full refund. After three business days, you will not receive a refund, but the Index will honor your request to not post a review of your book. Once you have requested that the Index not post a review of your book, you will not have the option to change your mind. If you decide you want a review, then you will need to start the process all over again and pay the appropriate fee again.

Q: If I pay the fee for an extended review, and then I change my mind and want the basic review after seeing the extended review, will my request be honored?
A: Yes, your extended review can be changed to a basic review, but you will not be entitled to any type of refund, partial or otherwise, since the work has already been done to create the extended review.

Q: If I pay the fee for a basic review, and then I change my mind and want the extended review after seeing the basic review, will my request be honored?
A: Yes, but you will be required to pay an additional fee for the cost of the extended review. If you find yourself in this situation, please use our contact form to make your request.

Q: Why is there a fee when so many others do book reviews for free?
A: The Index is all about books and promoting authors, but running a site like this doesn’t happen for free. Fees from book reviews go to purchasing books, maintaining this website and providing incentives to get visitors to come to the site and check out our authors.

Q: Do I have to provide a free copy of my book for review?
A: If your book is $4.99 or less, then the Index will purchase your book from a portion of the fee you paid to have your book reviewed. If your book is $5 or more, you will be asked to provide a copy of the book to the Index for review.

Q: If I have to provide a copy of my book, why can’t I send an advanced reading copy/galley or the Word file or PDF from my computer?
A: More than one book reviewer has been made to look totally silly or incompetent because s/he was provided with an unfinished version of a book and based his/her review on that. Once the book was published, most of the criticisms that the reviewer had about the book were rectified and no one told the reviewer. To keep this from happening, the Index requests that you provide the final, published copy of your book. If it is necessary for you to provide the Index with a copy of your book, you will be contacted in order to make this process as smooth as possible.

Q: If I pay for a 7-day, expedited review, and the Index misses the deadline, do I get a refund?
A: You have two options: (1) you can request a full refund of all the fees you paid, and you will not receive a review or (2) you can request to have the portion of your payment refunded that was paid for the 7-day, expedited service and you will still receive a review within 14 days.

Q: If I pay for a 14-day, expedited review, and the Index misses the deadline, do I get a refund?
A: You have two options: (1) you can request a full refund of all the fees you paid, and you will not receive a review or (2) you can request to have the portion of your payment refunded that was paid for the 14-day, expedited service and you will still receive a review within 21 days.

Q: Can I send a check or money order?
A: No. The Index only accepts payment through PayPal. Even if you don’t have a PayPal account, you can use your debit/credit card to pay through PayPal.

Q: Does the Index ever do free reviews?
A: The owner of the Index does free reviews but only on books she reads at her leisure, and she reads a lot of books at her leisure on her Kindle.  You may not request that she read your book for a free review, but you can simply “gift” it to her, and she may choose it for a free review. There are no guarantees, however, that she will either read or review your book, so gift it without expectation of either. The email address to use is ebookgifts[at]indaindex[dot]com. She really enjoys books about World War II, Holocaust literature, stories about families and really good sci-fi. If you prefer to send a physical copy of your book, the mailing address is in the footer of this page.

Q: I still have questions. How can I get them answered?
A: Use the Index’s contact form to ask any additional questions you have about book reviews.
